Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Services

Acquired Brain Injury Services provides life-skills support workers on a short-term, goals oriented basis and/or specialized residential services.
Provides rehabilitation, community support and residential services to adults who have experienced a brain injury. Service may be provided in the client's home.

Available to individuals with a brain injury acquired after birth and residing in the Fraser Health Authority region. Clients can be referred by a physician, health care provider, family member, or friend. Self-referrals are also accepted.

For ABI Services you must have:
  • medical evidence of an acquired brain injury (e.g. CT scan, MRI, Neurological / Physiatrist report)
  • 19 years of age or older
  • have healthcare service needs directly related to acquired brain injury, is medically stable, and does not require acute care.
  • have no (or limited) funding or access to services from third-party sources.
  • provides consent to receive services from ABIS (or client’s appointed representative)
  • have identified goals within the areas of health, safety, recovery, behaviour management and independence
  • requires behavioural support and individualized care to complete activities of daily living (ADL) and community living skills as a result of the ABI


Types of injury include:
  • aneurysm
  • hemorrhage
  • infection
  • anoxia/hypoxia
  • traumatic brain injury
  • stroke (ischemic and hemorrhagic)
  • arteriovenous malformation
  • tumour
