Older Adult Community Mental Health Services - Mission

The Older Adult Community Mental Health provides mental health consultation, assessment, psychiatric treatment and support to individuals over 65 years of age who are experiencing late life onset of mental health symptoms.
This program is for individuals over the age of 65 who are experiencing psychiatric symptoms such as memory decline, confusion, depression, anxiety, psychosis (e.g. hallucinations, delusions, paranoia) or other symptoms that affect the person’s ability to manage their daily living activities.

The outreach teams are comprised of psychiatric nurses, social workers, health care workers and geriatric psychiatrists. Teams see people in their own homes or assisted living facilities. They provide consultation to care teams in residential care facilities.

Services include but are not limited to:
  • Comprehensive mental health assessment, diagnosis
  • Treatment that may include prescription medication
  • Mental health condition, coping strategies and medication management training
  • Supportive counselling
  • Family/caregiver support
  • Response to a report of adult abuse and/or neglect
  • Linking individuals and their families to community services/resources, such as Home and Community Care support
  • Outreach services to individuals and consultation and support to both the individual and their family.

Offers outreach consultation, assessment and follow up services for seniors living in Mission.


For patients over 65 years old with new onset of mental illness, or a diagnosis of age related dementia with psychiatric complications. First assessment may be done in the home by a case manager. Outreach program will treat patients in their home if it is a hardship for them to go to a clinic. All referrals assigned to intake nurse and patient, or family member if appropriate, will be contacted directly. To access these services you can phone your local Mental Health and Substance Use Centre team and speak to an intake staff who will direct your request to the right person.


Older Adult Community Mental Health and Substance Use services are available Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM. – 4:30 PM. This service is available for seniors (over 65 years old).
